Man doing pest controlThe National Pest Management Association said that around 20 million rats are present in U.S. households each year, although some cities have a bigger problem when it comes to these pests.

In Chicago, the problem of rat infestation has been more noticeable there than any other city in the U.S. From September 2016 to September 2017, Chicago ranked as the “rattiest” city in the country. It has clinched the undesirable status for the third year in a row.

Urban Pest Problem

New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco-Oakland and Washington, D.C. completed the top five cities with the biggest population of rats. No city in Utah made it to the top 10, but that does not mean that rodent extermination in Salt Lake City is unnecessary.

While a clean and well-kept home serves as the best solution to prevent pests, there are certain factors such as weather conditions that still require pest control services. Rodents normally seek warmer places at the onset of autumn. If you are moving into a new house, you should learn to avoid common mistakes that contribute to household pest problems.

New Homeowners

You splurged most of your money on buying a new house or paying for rent, so the idea of buying second-hand furniture seems a cost-efficient trick. However, most residents fail to realize that used furniture can be infested with bed bugs, spiders and even scorpions.

For this reason, make sure that pre-owned items are clean before putting them inside the house. Another common mistake involves delaying repairs for minor leaks in water pipes, which attract pests that thrive in damp and dark areas.
