Garage DoorThe garage is just another area of home improvement that requires special planning. There are many types of garage doors available, and each of them has their strengths and weaknesses. A good garage door helps protect your vehicle and your house from the weather. It also protects your vehicle from theft and vandalism.

There are several types of garage doors. Capital Garage Doors lists some of the most common designs that are available. When choosing a door, conduct some research on the various styles first, so you can make an informed decision.

Modern Garage Door Styles

Modern garage doors are remote controlled and are lifted upwards to allow your vehicle to park inside. There are three basic styles available with some variations depending on the manufacturer.

Up and over garage doors consist of a solid panel with no sections. As the name suggests, they lift up and over on railings attached to the garage ceiling. Since these are solid door pieces, up and over garage doors are perfect for installing windows. They can also be decorated with tarpaulins and decals because they do not bend or fold.

Roller garage doors, on the other hand, look similar to roller blinds found on windows. They are made of a thinner material that can be bundled into a tight roll.

Next, there’s the sectional garage doors, which combine the features of up and over and roller garage doors. They consist of larger sections that fold as they are lifted. They have the flexibility of roller garage doors, but have solid panels similar to up and over doors.

Traditional Garage Doors

Traditional side hinged garage doors are making a comeback because of their aesthetic and outward opening design. More and more people are converting their garages into storage spaces or even into living spaces, upgrading them to maximise their functionality. Since most of these new storage solutions require a considerable amount of headspace, there is often not enough room for a modern garage door.

Traditional side hinged garage doors are just like regular outward facing double doors and do not take up a lot of space. New mechanisms allow homeowners to automate their door just like modern garage doors. Since they open outwards, they do not take up overhead space in the garage.

Always choose a garage door that fits your needs and requirements. It improves the functionality of your vehicle’s parking space.
